Alec Baldwin visited a music store in Vermont to get some equipment for his new work, it has been revealed.

The actor, famed for his sitcom Saturday Night Live, was shopping in the Upper Valley.

He was later spotted playing guitar in a bar in downtown Burlington after the “suspicious fire” at an apartment in the area, according to the Burlington Free Press.

Authorities said a man was killed in the incident.

“Nothing was suspicious and the fire was contained to one apartment,” said Mayor Miro Weinberger.

Weinberger said the apartment is under renovation and is being prepared for rent.

The city’s mayor added that the other 14 apartments had experienced minor damage.

The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were alerted to the fire after officers received reports of smoke and flames coming from the apartment.

There were reports that a subject may have fled the scene.

Police cordoned off the area as they investigated and a dog from the bureau searching for the suspect.

The FBI is offering a $5,000 (£3,800) reward for information leading to the capture of the gunman.

The Sun reported that police are still investigating whether there is a link between the apartment building’s owner and mayor.

Those at the Kendall Pub got to see a subdued Baldwin playing guitar on stage:

“The mayor had gone on an energy supplement of some kind,” Bill Wallach, owner of the Kendall Pub, told the paper.

“Alec turned around and said thank you for the blast and walked offstage.”
