Darrell Barnett became the 33rd manager to manage 1,000 games for his current team Sunday, when the Phillies scored eight runs in the first inning.

Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving, in need of a blood transfusion last week, is back at practice. Irving suffered an injury in a loss to the 49ers on Nov. 1 and missed four games.

The Astros jumped out to a 3-0 lead in Game 2 of the World Series, and Houston wound up winning 8-4. James McCann hit a three-run homer in the first. It was McCann’s first homer in the playoffs since September.

In a rare development, the Rangers placed one of their four closers on the disabled list. closer Keone Kela experienced numbness in his pitching hand Monday. Also on the DL is Matt Bush. They had already put Sam Dyson on the DL.

Alex Morgan scored twice, in the first and second halves, to give the US a 3-0 lead over Sweden in a 6-0 victory at the Algarve Cup. Megan Rapinoe and Crystal Dunn also scored.

The US now plays Mexico on Tuesday for a chance to advance to the final, set for Thursday.
