I need your help in doing a crossword puzzle and at least trying to diagnose the business model as an effective solution to a business. (There’s a large job posting for the present position.)
The individuals in the General Motors company know what they should do with the business. However, the board of directors, ineffectual as they are, have set this up as a “jobs for life” position. On the other hand the founder, who created the business, who is still owns almost half of the shares, doesn’t give a fig how the business is run. He is afraid of the new CEO and is trying to drive him out. They are trying to lay the best people off but the CEO is too smart for this. So he is trying to get out of the way and hire a lot of spinners. The upper management isn’t too happy with the marketing strategy yet the whole company is too obsessed with the market share instead of market profits.
Meanwhile everyone is having trouble finding new great employees. The people I know are looking for these positions.
So now it’s back to the old adage that “you pay a man a living and you get the services.” I think I know what Best Buy should do. But when I put forward that solution to my board of directors I became the most unpopular man on earth. Their rationale was that the leader had all the marketing expertise, so they would hire another visionary. Then they forgot the fact that most of these folks just turn out to be consultants that people hired to make vague statements to placate their investors.
One of my suggestions was to have the CEO give a sort of Thanksgiving Day speech, saying goodbye to his friends and saying good luck, and instructing everyone to report directly to him. At the end of the speech he would tell them to go out and try their very best to deliver shareholder value. That way they are going to have more than one way to skin a cat.
Furthermore they would be doing things that were going to help people make more money than they could ever lose. I think I know what they want, but I can’t find their job opening.
