Trend Watch: My October Picks

Having just graduated from college, my life as a beauty editor is picking up speed. So, in the next few months, here’s what I’m salivating over:

Scent Album of the Month: YSL Beauty’s Wicked Preference by Olivier Rizzo

I’ve already tried Olivier Rizzo’s signature fragrance for months and I can tell you that YSL’s Wicked Preference is exactly what every woman on planet Earth should be using right now. There’s just the right amount of sweetness, playfulness and the juiciest of notes — think a modern, seductive, pretty place where candy exists but not at the expense of scent.

What I like most about Wicked Preference is the shape. It’s compact, thin and compact; the bottles are ideal for transport — we love the travel size and the Électrique ultrafeminine release. The finished result is exactly what you’d expect from YSL’s most sophisticated, glamorous scent; the label couldn’t be more accurate.

I won’t say much more. The best part about this: It comes in a very adorable black My Little Pony bottle. Although it’s impossible not to fall in love with a pink unicorn’s trunk, the pink beauty collection looks gorgeous next to the My Little Pony cosplay outfit I plan to wear to the Renaissance Faire this fall.

The Tailor-Made Knee High Boots I’m Set to Wear from Chloe by Chiara Ferragni

Halloween is just around the corner, and that means tons of tights and big boots. This season, there are so many boots on the market but only one pair that satisfies my insatiable Kitten snobbery. These Chloe boots are not only perfect for Halloween, but they’re also perfect for the rest of the year — they come in colorful leather and stiletto lace-up booties. I think I’m good with black on black all year round — just in black! It’s a superhero boot design — ninja boots, really — that would make a total statement in our office. There’s something about black shoes that keep the office drama at bay. Plus, the heels are able to handle any bad elbows or high heel kicks you might throw our way. I don’t want to give away the surprise — I’m just trying to coax you into making your own hair-raising pair for Halloween.

You won’t find these boots on any Halloween costume board on the planet — just the fact that they’re a lace-up bootie will get you noticed. I still have a stockpile of colors; this is the fuchsia and green the board has been missing. Your Halloween Instagram photos will have to do, because those knee-high black leather boots will go way beyond the CVS Halloween section.

Face of October

It’s the oldest trick in the book: exercise regularly for your face, plan new exercises for your face and bring these tips with you to your spa appointments. In October, face goals are really great, because it’s only October. So many of my favorite aesthetician shops have gift certificates on their websites that can be used for presents. For instance, Life is Beautiful at the Joule Hotel in Beverly Hills allows you to use up a $99 gift certificate for makeup, brow shaping, facials, eyelash tinting and gel massages all at the place you’re staying, and they let you take it there. In addition, Life is Beautiful actually sends out gift certificates to their favorite clients, so sometimes I even get cardigans for gifts from The Body Shop with gift certificates!
