“I’m just trying to figure out what’s happening to her.” That’s the response a sister provided me last night when I asked about her sister’s recent marriage. The news broke this week, and for those familiar with the show Lizzie McGuire, the two-year marriage of former teen star Hilary Duff is ending. Sources close to the couple have said that Hilary’s struggle with addictions, though her spokesperson said she plans to work on her issues and will look to reframe her life and career in a positive direction.
Despite the claims that life with Hilary was challenging, the woman’s sister said, “I’m not worried at all because she’s like my best friend. Hilary and I haven’t really spoken about it very much because I’m not going to hurt her, so I’m going to keep it behind my back.”
The woman’s guard seemed solid, but that probably wasn’t just to protect her sister. After all, the same woman’s name is found on a statement from the legal team of the Lizzie McGuire writer accused of assaulting a female reporter. Yes, that same legal team, the same one responsible for reassuring the public that the alleged victim was “the aggressor” in her claims against the writer, who is Ross Shapiro.
